Coffee and Conversation: We know this is a special time after Worship and for some, a highlight of the week in being with church family. But, this doesn’t just happen without volunteers. Please consider this as part of your ministry in your church and sign up to host a Sunday. Sign-up sheets are posted and waiting for you! Many thanks to this week’s Coffee Hosts: Nancy & Ron Gillean, and Jean Scott. Thank you for all your help!

 

Warming up to Worship: Come out from 9:00-9:45 before the Sunday services each week, and join us as we engage in a group discussion about that week’s readings. All are welcome. We have a lot of fun examining the readings of the day and discovering how the text might become meaningful in our lives. Bring a Bible and your morning coffee and join the conversation.

 

Save the date, Dec 12 at 7:30 pm: Join the Westwinds Choral Society’s 3 Choirs and our LUC Choir for a celebration of Christmas favourites on Tuesday, Dec 12th at 7:30 pm in the Sanctuary. Food Bank donations are welcome.

Thursday December 21, 2017, “Blue Christmas” or “Longest Night” service (7 pm). This special time has been set aside for those who may find Christmas to be challenging and sometimes painful. Come and join in with prayer and candle-lighting, soft music, and a message of hope.

 

December 24 Christmas Eve Morning, Family-focused service (10 am) – 4 the Sunday of Advent with caroling around 9:45 am and the theme being love.

 

December 24 Candlelight Service (7 pm) – This service is one of our highlights of the year with caroling, hearing the Christmas message, sharing in communion, lighting candles, and being in community together.

 

Merry & Bright Caroling Night at Northminster United Church (3311 Centre St N): Wednesday December 20 at 7 pm: Sing your Christmas favourites in the warmth of our building. Free hot chocolate and cookies. Everyone Welcome.

Bulletin Announcements December 3, 2017

Please pick up your Christmas letter from Jope. They are located on the Narthex table. Name and address contact sheets are located beside his letter. We ask that once you pick up your letter that you cross off your name and address on this sheet. This will help us cut down on envelope and mailing cost. Thank you.

 LUC Council 2 Volunteer Opportunities:

  1. Communications person
    1. Duties: Post announcements and updates on our current LUC website. Training will be provided
    2. Time commitment: less than 2 hrs/month
  2. Temporary Council Secretary
    1. Duties: Attend Council Meetings and prepare minutes
    2. Commitment:  volunteer for 1 or more meetings

 

Poinsettias in memory of a loved-one are available for $20.00 each. Please submit your request on or before Dec. 12th. Place your payment (cheque) into the labelled “Poinsettia” envelopes provided on the narthex table or come to the office in person to submit your payment. The Poinsettia request sheet is located on the Narthex table.

St. Laurence Anglican Church December 3, 7:30 pm, $18. The Painted Fish Performing Arts Society Presents “The Son”, a new musical by Marian Hamilton, Tony Matthews and Daphne Matthews. This story is about a lonely Jerusalem boy named Jesse. “I wanted to tell the Christmas story from the point of view of an ordinary person experiencing very extraordinary things’, says author Marian Hamilton.

 

December 3 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm: Red Deer Lake United’s Pastor Nick Coates and Jesse Peters will be presenting the Do You Hear What I Hear? A night of hearing the Christmas story in a brand new way with good people and good music. It will be held at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, 1121 14th Ave. SW, Calgary. Everyone is welcome, wanted and accepted to come out to this. Bring a food bank donation or pay what you can to help cover the costs.

 

Calgary Carol Festival 2017: Knox United Church 506- 4th Street SW. Saturday December 2 and Sunday December 3 and Monday December 4th at 7 pm. A variety of Calgary choirs get together to perform for a worthy cause, The Calgary Inter-Faith Food Bank. Non-perishable food items or a donation to the Food Bank is welcomed for admission to the festival. The evening also includes carol singing with the audience. Please make every effort to join us on Wednesday, December 6th at 12:30 pm at Beth Tzedec for our next planning meeting for the 2018 UN World Interfaith Harmony Week.  We welcome your input and participation whether you have been to previous meetings or if this is your first time.

 

Camp Caravan presents Elves Workshop: Saturday Dec 9, 10 am to 4:30 pm at the St. Andrews Centre, 1-10601 Southport Road SW. Children in Kindergarten to grade 6, join our Camp Caravan staff for a day of Christmas Spirit filled with “make and take” gifts, lunch, sweet treats and Holiday Festivity Fun! $20/child. Financial support is available as we do not turn children away.
