Beyond Sunday Morning: Spiritual Practices for Daily Life
Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 12:21PM Ministry Theme: September 2011 – June 2012
It doesn’t matter if you know a lot about spiritual practices... or nothing at all.
It doesn’t matter if they never worked for you before... or you’ve been doing them for years.
We are creating opportunities to be spiritual explorers together. Spiritual Practices can discover and deepen ways to connect the dots between the energy of Sacred Mystery and the energy of our daily lives. They deepen our capacity to receive and offer grace.
The trick is to find the spiritual practices that work well for us. Let’s be curious and open, willing to try some things again and other things for the first time. It is often the thing we least expected to “fit” that ends up being just the thing that works best. We will explore this theme each Sunday, and our first “special event” is:
An Introduction to Spiritual Practices, Monday evening, September 25th
Mark your calendars! We will have a chance to learn about the variety of spiritual practices and link with others looking at practices that also interest us. Topics include:
- prayer—different types
- work as ritual action—the importance of doing and how we “do work” fasting—long or short term for food, shopping, facebook, texting, TV, coffee, etc. rituals with children that honour their spirit
- journaling—options to consider
- Yoga—the power of centering in your body
- home altars—creating them and using them
- rituals for the table at home
- developing rituals for managing life’s challenges
- beginning and ending the day with God
- worship rituals—understanding and creating them
- presence—how to avoid being a “flight risk” in your own life
- ....and more
We’ve also been gathering resources for you to borrow or purchase, and will profile those things as we go along. Let me know if we’ve missed something you are interested in. There’s always room for Jello!
with you in ministry, Diane.
