The annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity begins Thursday, Jan 18 and concludes Thursday, January 25. Let us join other Christian churches in our area as we remember the 2018 theme, “Your Right Hand, O Lord, Glorious in Power” (Exodus 15:6) prepared by  the Caribbean Conference of churches. Red Carpet Series Concert & Lunch: Please join us at Knox United Church February 2nd for this lovely concert presented by the German Canadian Male Chorus of Calgary on February 2 at noon! The concert is free, lunch is $7.00. The German Canadian Male Chorus was founded in 1971 by German immigrants who wished to enjoy and preserve their German choral culture.  Today, we sing approximately 60% of our songs in German and about 60% of our members are still immigrants from Germany and nearby countries. In October 2017, the choir toured to England in celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Canada. The choir is directed by Susan Woodward and accompanied by Jeannie Park.

 

Living Well and Leaving Well: McInnis and Holloway is offering a one hour workshop at St. Thomas United Church, on Probate and Estates, Power of Attorney and Personal Directives, Cremation and Burial Pre-Planning, and How to Simplify Your Executor's Job. WHEN:  11:30 a.m. Sun. Calgary Queer Church has its first service of the year this Sunday, January 7 at Parkdale United Church. We have a lovely new space in the basement-we specifically chose this space to accommodate our growing community, because we enjoyed the acoustics, and because it felt so cozy! Follow the signs when you enter Parkdale’s front doors to find us. The doors open at 6:00pm for fellowship and the service begins at 7:00pm.

 

On January 19th, Red Deer Lake United will have the play “Family Tear”. The playwright, Michelle Warkentin not only tackles the subject of dementia but she is also looks at other health issues that can plague women. As all of us age, the play is of interest to any person 14 and over wondering about dementia. Doors will open at 6:30 PM and the play will begin at 7:00 PM. A concession will be available. December 24 Candlelight Service (7 pm) – This service is one of our highlights of the year with caroling, hearing the Christmas message, sharing in communion, lighting candles, and being in community together.

Merry & Bright Caroling Night at Northminster United Church (3311 Centre St N): Wednesday December 20 at 7 pm: Sing your Christmas favourites in the warmth of our building. Free hot chocolate and cookies. Everyone Welcome.

 

The 3rd Annual Messiah from Scratch being held at Knox Presbyterian Church on December 22 at 2:30pm. Calling all singers and instrumentalists to join us to perform the Messiah unrehearsed under the baton of Carey Unger, and featuring various soloists (there might still be some solos available!). This story is about a lonely Jerusalem boy named Jesse. “I wanted to tell the Christmas story from the point of view of an ordinary person experiencing very extraordinary things’, says author Marian Hamilton.

 

December 3 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm: Red Deer Lake United’s Pastor Nick Coates and Jesse Peters will be presenting the Do You Hear What I Hear? A night of hearing the Christmas story in a brand new way with good people and good music. It will be held at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, 1121 14th Ave. SW, Calgary. Everyone is welcome, wanted and accepted to come out to this. Bring a food bank donation or pay what you can to help cover the costs.

KAIROS Blanket Exercise: St Thomas United Church 100 Hawkwood Blvd NW is hosting a KAIROS Blanket Exercise, a workshop that explores the nation-to-nation relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous  peoples in Canada. This exercise will be guided by a KAIROS trained facilitator as well as an Indigenous Elder. For those with allergy concerns, please note there will not be a smudge ceremony held in the room. A simple supper will be served following the exercise (vegetarian & gluten free options available).  Saturday, September 23, 1-5pm, in the Mountain View Room (upstairs), no official cost but  donations are appreciated. Thanks! To all who were a part of the Annual Summer Potluck. It was a time of great food, friends and fellowship. A special thanks for the many who handled kitchen duties (there were a lot of dishes to be washed and put away), and for those who helped in cleaning the Fellowship Hall 

Missing Glasses? On Monday, July 24, 2017 Ewa our Caretaker found a pair of glasses in the Sanctuary. They will be on the narthex table for now and will kept in Stirling’s office for safe keeping during the week.

Burn 24-7 Calgary On July 14th to 15th Burn 24-7 Calgary will be holding a weekend of Worship at 178099 96th street West Foothills in Calgary. There will be continuous worship from 6pm until 10pm on Friday the 14th and we will pick up again on Saturday the 15th from 12 noon until 6pm.  There is free camping available on the property, bathrooms will be available, but plan to bring everything else you might need for a great weekend of seeking God together in worship!  This is a FREE event.

Thank you for all the support in running the Board Game Café Fundraiser on June 24th, it was a success, we had a good turnout, and were able to raise $301.00 towards famine relief.

Dream Centre Annual Stampede Breakfast. Get your cowboy boots ready and join us on Thursday, July 6th from 8:00 to 11:00 AM for our annual Stampede Pancake Breakfast co-hosted by Shine FM and The Light AM 700. Living with Wildlife: Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the FCJ Retreat and Conference Centre from 7-9pm. The Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society in association with the FCJ Centre would like to invite your community to attend this event which seeks to teach people how to live alongside snowshoe hares and other wildlife

Westwinds Music Society Summer Program 2017: Registration for the Westwinds Summer Programs is open the deadline for registration has been extended until July 7th and is a user-pay, adults-only program open to all Westwinds members and non-members. The Concert band and choir will practice at Lakeview united church on Wednesdays from 7-9pm starting July 26th and the Jazz band practices Thursdays from 7-9pm starting July 27th. Costs are $100 for the first group and $75 for each additional group, payment must be done through Paypal.

 

Drop-in Tea: July 19th and August 16th at 1:30-3:00pm.  Come join us in the Upper Hall for Tea, Scones and Conversation. Free Event!
